Instructions

First, log in to the Data Security and Protection Toolkit as usual.    

Then, go to your “My account” page then follow the instructions to migrate your account to use NHSmail.

Once complete, you should choose 'log in with NHSmail' every time you log in.

 

Notes

Having chosen to 'log in with NHSmail' you will no longer be able to log in using your old username and password (on the left hand side of the login page).  You may wish to remove your old Toolkit password from any saved passwords in your browser to avoid future confusion.

The benefits

By using your NHSmail account to log in, you will have fewer passwords to remember.  NHSmail also offers security benefits including the option of two-factor authentication, to provide an extra layer of security when logging in.

If you would like to add two factor authentication on your NHSmail account, please speak to your local NHSmail administrator. 

 

How it works

When you log in to the Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) via NHSmail, you are asked to log in to NHSmail itself (which starts an NHSmail session).  Upon NHSmail successfully confirming your identity, control is passed back to DSPT which commences a separate secure DSPT session.

Your NHSmail password is NOT transmitted to the Data Security and Protection Toolkit at any stage.

If you use a shared computer, you should choose to log out of NHSmail at the end of your session.
